Citizens for Responsible Development Receives Prestigious 2024 Huplits Grant
Lower Saucon Township, PA – Citizens for Responsible Development (CRD) of Lower Saucon Township is proud to announce that it has been awarded a 2024 Huplits Grant by the Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club Huplits Committee. This grant, totaling $12,500, will support CRD’s vital efforts to protect and preserve 275 acres of forested habitat and the Lehigh River watershed from the proposed expansion of the Bethlehem Landfill in Lower Saucon Township.
The grant underscores CRD’s dedication to safeguarding the local environment and ensuring sustainable land-use practices. By funding critical conservation activities, the award will bolster the organization’s capacity to mitigate threats to vital ecosystems and maintain the natural beauty and functionality of the region’s environment.
Kathy Pichel-McGovern, President of CRD, expressed gratitude for the recognition and funding. “We are honored to receive the Huplits Grant and deeply value the Sierra Club’s commitment to conservation and environmental stewardship,” said Pichel-McGovern. “This support strengthens our ability to protect one of Pennsylvania’s most precious natural resources, and we look forward to collaborating with other community stakeholders to achieve our goals.”
The grant will be administered on a reimbursement basis, and CRD will provide annual and final reports to the Huplits Committee documenting progress and expenditures. CRD also plans to leverage this funding to seek additional financial support to ensure the project’s success.
As part of the grant’s terms, CRD will acknowledge the Sierra Club Huplits Grant in all related materials and activities, demonstrating the shared commitment to preserving natural habitats and promoting responsible development practices.
